Let's all admit it, back then we needed study tips during the face to face set-up. Which means that now during online classes, the amount of students needing study tips would most likely double now.
I also admit that when things have changed, I also scrambled too look for tips that I can use to continue having that straight As I had always have.
So without further ado, let us start with tips that I have found useful during this online class set-up.
1. Find a comfortable place to study
I know, you must have read this a thousand times already and/or maybe have even heard of it before from other youtubers but it is a very important tip. Having this permanent place where you study helps in bringing your mind into focusing that what you should be doing is studying rather than surfing through Instagram.
But like all tips, this also has a golden rule. Your bed is not a place for studying so rise up and look for another place. A bed is where one must rest, therefore should you study there what you would experience is lethargy rather than energy.
2. Take notes!
I cannot emphasize this enough, but having notes is a gold mine and it is important, that even in online class, you should have this. Not only will this help you retain more information but also may help you have references someday.
Believe me, with my chosen strand of ICT-P, the notes I had back when I was still in Junior High School about programming have helped me tremendously remember the basics and easily understand lessons which leads me to do advance readings.
Let's face it, no matter how smart or great a student is, we will always forget something about past lessons which may come in handy today or someday.
These days we now have two choices in taking notes, the traditional and the digital. I use both, especially since most of my teachers use power point presentation. I upload the presentation into my iPad using the app Metamoji Note Lite then I'll review the recording with both the slides and the notes I have taken during the actual live session then add both information using my stylus.
Not only is it easy for me to organize my notes, it is also easy for me to access it since I only need to make an account and backup the files, so that I could access it in both my iPad and my phone.
3. Plan your day
I'm aware of just how hard it is to plan your day ahead of time or maybe even estimate the time you may need to give a certain plan. So what I can give you as a tip, is to know your school schedule. If you ever have the chance to have the school calendar, that would be marvelous because it would help you to plot your days ahead both in school and personal time.
Putting important things into schedule would easily help you find the free time you have been solely craving for. Having a proper schedule may lessen the stress and help the mentality that your schedule is packed or losing time for a "me time".
4. Lessen distractions
We all know that gadgets are distracting. Even if it is what we use to study. Now here is my tip, lock your phone away if you need to - don't be afraid to ask your parents to intervene.
You can't? Because of numerous valid reasons? Then you could also use study timers or social media blockers so that you would still be able to use the gadget but still avoid distractions. I rarely use this type of things because normally I'm to busy organizing, writing, and keeping up with the lesson. But should you need it, there are a lot of reliable apps and websites out there. You can go and choose what you think you would want or is applicable to you.
5. Use active recall rather than passive recall
Stop memorizing the whole book! Not only is this preventing you to move on to the next topic, it is also putting a strain to your mental health.
Instead, what you should do is listen attentively during class, take notes and answer questions. Understanding even the very base of the lesson is a tremendous help, now what you only need is to understand and practice the things you keep on forgetting.
Another thing is that instead of writing the whole meaning as written in the book or slides, if the exact meaning is not needed, write the meaning in your own words because this will increase the chance of you remembering the topic.
